Fiji govt allows spouses of overseas diplomats to seek local employment

Fiji's cabinet has approved a policy framework that will allow spouses of diplomats and consular personnel posted to Fiji to be employed there.

Currently they are not permitted to work in Fiji.

Foreign Minister, Kaliopate Tavola, says the New Zealand and Australian governments had formally approached Fiji on the matter.

Mr Tavola says the Fiji government approved the request because spouses and dependents of Fiji diplomats can work wherever they are posted.
