9:14 am on 26 October 2002

The Solomon Islands police patrol boat, Lata, has transported twenty villagers from the Weather Coast of Guadalcanal to Honiara for medical treatment.

A police spokesperson says the villagers needed medical treatment unavailable in the remote area where medical srvices have collapsed since the ethnic crisis.

The patrol boat arrived on the Weather Coast carrying a group of police officers on a mission to capture renegade militant leader, Harold Keke, who is wanted for the murder of a government minister.

Around forty officers are involved in the search.

Police have refused to reveal any other details of the mission.
