The British Government has received seven applications for the position of Solomon Islands new police commissioner.
Britain has offered a new commissioner as its part in a police rebuilding project, to which Australia and New Zealand are also contributing.
The Solomon Islands Prime Minister Sir Allen Kemakeza says the candidates are being short listed and he expects they will be notified about who has been appointed in around four weeks.
Sir Allen says the new commissioner should be able to take up his post in late December or early January.
The current commissioner Morton Sireheti is due to retire at the end of the year.
