People from the northern Cook island of Manihiki want answers over cyclone funds

11:43 am on 4 November 2002

People from the northern Cook island of Manihiki are questioning the use of funds donated in the wake of Cyclone Martin.

Nineteen people were killed or went missing during the cyclone that struck almost exactly five years ago.

A Trust was set up to manage the fund and a trustee, Terry Smith, says they're anxious to see the more than a hundred thousand dollars used to benefit all Manihikans.....especially the children who lost parents.

Many people from Manihiki say the money was donated in the belief it would be given to those in need, but they have seen very little benefit from the money being held in the trust fund.
