A new committee has been formed to oversee Papua New Guinea's Southern Highlands Province until the supplementary elections are conducted.

The member for Mendi, Michael Nali, has been appointed chariman fo the ad hoc committee.

He says there is an urgent need for the government to address the problems in Mendi, as it is the administrative nerve centre of the province.

He told the Post Courier that the problems spanned more than ten years and that d criminal, tribal, and polcitical crime had taken hold.

Mr Nali said his first job would be to get the public service in order and to get law-enforcement agencies working together with community leaders
