The 12 year old daughter of Papua New Guinea Cabinet Minister, Sir Moi Avei, is expected to be released from hospital later this week after a car driven by her mother was shot at during the weekend.

The 12 year old is said to be in a stable condition after an operation to remove shot gun pellets from her abdomen.

Sir Moi was not in the car.

The attack at the Two Mile Hill squatter settlement in Port Moresby came soon after the body guard of former Prime Minister and Parliament's current Speaker, Bill Skate, was hit when Mr Skate's car was shot at in the same area.

Mr Skate was unhurt while the bodyguard, a police man, was released from hospital yesterday.

Mr Skate says it is the second time in recent weeks that his car has been shot at.
