Vanuatu's parliamentary session delayed

6:43 pm on 5 November 2002

An extra-ordinary session of Parliament due to open today in Vanuatu has been delayed 24 hours after MPs complained they hadn't had enough time to study the agenda.

The Government wants to submit 28 pieces of legislation in the session, but the MPs asked the Speaker for the delay after being presented with the bills this morning.

They normally have a day to study new bills.

Included in the legislation is a measure to counter Terrorism in Vanuatu.

The extraordinary session is timed to finish on November 26th, with an ordinary session to begin straight after.
