Rain won't stop Fiji rugby test in Dublin

4:30 pm on 15 November 2002

The Fiji/Ireland rugby international will go ahead at Lansdowne Road in Dublin on Sunday despite continuous rain in the Irish capital over recent days.

Last week the new pitch, which cost the Irish Rugby Football Union nearly four hundred thousand US dollars failed to drain away surface water as rain fell during Ireland's 18-9 win over Australia.

In some parts, puddles were so deep the ball stopped on a pitch installed just two months ago.

Regardless of the continuing wet weather the Irish Rugby Union says the match will go ahead as scheduled at the home of Irish rugby.
