New Caledonian police have detained 27 people for drunkenness and possessing illegal drugs in an operation in a Noumea nightclub area.
They say in one nightclub 150 patrons were checked and eight detained, with one of them carrying a small quantity of cannabis.
More than 30 police were involved in the operation, which was concluded in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, radio reports say the main road south of Noumea was closed after a serious road accident near St Louis.
The radio also says young people in area got into arguments with police sent to the scene.
