224 students from Tupou College in Tonga have had their court appearances on wilful damage charges deferred for a third time, until December the 2nd.

The group, which allegedly destroyed equipment at Tonga College, were given summons on Tuesday, then the judge decided to adjourn the premliminary hearing to allow them to attend their school prizegiving on Friday.

The case had been deferred twice before, because police had not finished their preparations, and then to allow students to sit school exams.

The students are said to have broken windows, destroyed computers, musical instruments and a truck, during an early morning raid on Tonga College.

The damage was estimated at around a quarter of a million US dollars.
