American Samoan governor to get new title in Samoa

11:32 am on 28 November 2002

The governor of American Samoa, Tauese Sunia, will be given the chiefly title of Tuailemafua in the Samoan village of Fagaoalii at the end of the week.

Tauese, members of the Sunia family and relatives of first Lady Fagaoalii Sunia are travelling to Savaii for the ceremony.

Because of the absence of both the governor and Lt Governor Togiola Tulafono, who is in Taiwan, the Treasurer Aitofele Sunia is the acting governor.

However, when Aitofele also heads to Savaii, the Chief Election Officer Soliai Tuipine will become the acting governor.
