An officer in the newly created STAR division of Solomon Islands police is in custody allegedly for selling guns to Guadalcanal militants.
The CID director, Jackson Ofu, confirmed the officer is being accused of selling two SR88 guns to the militants.
He said keeping the officer in police custody is also for his own safety considering the anger shown by relatives of an officer killed a week ago on the Weather Coast.
Mr Ofu says the officer has not yet been charged.
