More than 120 passengers have been rescued after a fire broke out on a luxury cruise ship, the Windsong, near Tahiti.

The high commissioner of French Polynesia reports that all 127 passengers have been taken to the nearby island of Uturoa on a small passenger craft.

The news agency, Australian Association Press, says emergency radio reports indicate that most of the 92-member crew remain aboard the Windsong, trying to contain the blaze.
