Tonga has moved a step closer to a place in the Rugby World Cup after a comprehensive 47-14 win over Papua New Guinea at Port Moresby.
The result means Tonga must either win the return match on December 7 at Nuku'Alofa or lose the match by less than 33 points in order to advance to a further playoff against Korea.
The winner of that home and away series will secure the repechage two place at the World Cup.
Repechage two is in Pool D at the World Cup alongside New Zealand, Wales, Italy and Canada.
