PNG Defence force soldiers on Bougainville starving

5:16 am on 10 December 2002

The Papua New Guinea Defence Force needs a quarter of a million dollars to pay for outstanding bills.

The Defence Force contingent commander on the island of Bougainville has said that the 24 soldiers serving there were starving because they had not recieved funds since April.

Senior Defence Force soldiers say the lack of funds resulted in the judge and lawyers involved in investigating the Moem Barracks mutiny in East Sepik province being evicted from their hotel rooms.
