A controversial group, set up by the Vanuatu Government four months ago to back up the para military police unit, the Mobile Force, is being disbanded this week.
The group, which the Government is adamant could not be called a militia because its members were unarmed, was established during a standoff between the VMF and the police.
That standoff reached its climax a week ago with the sentencing of four senior police on mutiny charges.
Just days after employing the group, the Government asked the VMF to disband it after a protest by the country's leading chiefs.
But the group has remained together until this week as the Government spokesman, Daniel Bangtor, confirms.
