9:53 am on 13 December 2002

The Solomon Islands government has offered to employ some of the hundreds of teacher graduates coming out of Fiji colleges who are without jobs.

The Daily Post newspaper quotes the Solomon Islands Minister for Education, Mathias Taro, as saying his country is faced with a teacher shortage and needs more.

Mr Taro says since the Solomon islands has a shortage and Fiji has a flood of teachers, it would be ideal to recruit some for the Solomons.

He says he will be taking up the issue with the Fiji government.

Mr Taro is in Suva for a meeting of ministers of education from Forum island countries.
