Australia confirms more aid dollars for Solomons health services

Australia is to provide more than 5 million US dollars in aid this financial year to the Solomon Islands to help improve delivery of essential health services.

The funding is in addition to just over four and a half million provided earlier to the cash-strapped nation.

Parliamentary secretary for foreign affairs Chris Gallus said much of the earlier funding had gone towards helping provide medical supplies and the maintenance of critical health facilities and equipment.

Ms Gallus said that, along with law and order and economic governance, services delivery, in particular in the health sector, was one of the highest priority sectors for Australia's development cooperation program with the Solomons.
