Fiji's police have been warned that if they go on strike, they could face jail sentences of two years.
The warning has been delivered by the acting Commissioner of Police, Moses Driver, after a report that junior officers could go on strike from today over dissatisfaction with pay and working conditions.
Reports of a strike surfaced after the deputy opposition leader, Ofa Swann, revealed that 70 per cent of police officers live below the poverty line.
Mr Driver says police will continue to look into the idea of forming a union for officers to better their conditions through legitimate processes without outside influence.
