Fiji cabinet ministers to receive luxury vehicles this Christmas

Fiji taxpayers are spending 225 thousand US dollars this Christmas for six new luxury 4-wheel drive vehicles for cabinet ministers.

Four of the vehicles have already been delivered and two more will arrive from Japan in February.

An editorial in the Daily Post says the timing of the purchases could not be worse because Christmas is a time for ministers to give not take.

It says it is particularly galling that 225 thousand US dollars is being spent at a time when most people in Fiji have only their faith to sustain them.

It says this is a bitter pill to swallow.

The Fiji Labour Party says the misuse of public funds for such lavish lifestyles when half of Fiji lacks safe drinking water is sheer arrogance.
