The youth caucus of the Nuclear Free and Independent Pacific Movement has expressed its opposition to three thousand acres of rainforest being cleared to build a township in Samoa.
The government has bought forest near the village of Salelologa on the island of Savai'i....although the sale price has led to a court case, which is yet to be resolved.
The pledge supported by the youth caucus said the conference was concerned with preserving the Pacific environment and resources for future generations.
It said the Salelologa Forest held special significance as the best lowland forest in Samoa.
