Fiji police swoop on beggars and sex workers in Suva cleanup

Fiji police have begun cracking down on sex workers and removing beggars in Suva to clean up the capital ahead of the South Pacific Games in June.

In their first swoop during the weekend, a total of 22 prostitutes were arrested over two nights.

Most have been charged and are expected to appear in court soon.

The Southern Divisions police commander, Superintendent Romanu Tikotikoca, says the problem of beggars, street kids and prostitutes had been getting out of hand
