French Polynesian president on official visit to Fiji

8:05 am on 22 February 2003

French Polynesian President, Gaston Flosse, begins a four day visit to Fiji today.

His visit coincides with the expected arrival in Vanua Levu of some 500 thousand dollars worth of relief supplies for victims of Cyclones Zoe and Ami.

The supplies of food and water tanks aboard the vessel Tahiti Nui will be handed over to Fiji authorities in a ceremony attended by Mr Flosse.

Last year, French Polynesia sent teams of builders and construction materials to the island of Vava'u in Tonga after it was devestated by Cyclone Waka.
