Voters in Kiribati will know shortly the result of presidential elections.
A close contest was expected between the incumbent Teburoro Tito and opposition leader, Taberannang Timeon.
The editor of the Uekera newspaper, Iaram Tabureka, says almost all the counting of the votes has been completed.
"The final counting is on now for the vote in South Tarawa only and this is expected to be completed by midday today, and the formal swearing-in of the new president will take place at about 2.30 at parliament house in Ambo."
