French Polynesian president believes war against Iraq practically inevitable

The territorial president of French Polynesia, Gaston Flosse, says he believes that war against Iraq is practically inevitable.

He also says there will be a considerable impact on tourism if it does because in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the U.S., cruise liners were tied up at port and companies folded due to a lack of visitors.

Mr Flosse, whose words are translated, says he supports France's stand on finding a long term resolution.

"I believe that this war is practically inevitable, said Mr Flosse. He went on to say that he hopes that the President of the French Republic, Jacque Chirac will maintain his stance in attempting to find a long term resolution, but that there will be a considerable impact on tourism for French Polynesia."
