American Samoan police involved in suspected drugs case to be armed

Police officers in American Samoa investigating the disappearance of Wyatt Bowles Jnr are being allowed to carry weapons on a 24 hour basis becuase of threats surrounding what is thought to be a drugs related case.

Wyatt Bowles Jnr has been missing for more than two weeks and his car was found, burnt out, at the bottom of a cliff in Vaitogi.

The Lieutenant Governor, Togiola Tulafono, said the government had received information that some of the people linked to the disappearance were heavily armed.

The FBI has already been called in to assist in the case after the Bowles family expressed concerns that the territorial police did not have sufficient resources.

Six people have already been arrested in connection with the case.
