Heavy rain and strong winds have lashed western Fiji as Cyclone Eseta was located about 450 kilometres south west of Nadi late this morning.
Radio Fiji quotes the director of meteorology, Rajendra Prasad, as saying the cyclone's movement could change and if that happens, it could affect some of the southern islands tonight and tomorrow morning.
Mr Prasad says the indirect effects of Cyclone Eseta will be felt in Fiji's south western areas and waters and the islands there.
Heavy rain has already closed some roads and bridges including one near Nadi airport.
District officials say the level of the Nadi River is still rising and poses a threat to Nadi town and its surroundings.
Meanwhile in Solomon Islands the National Disaster Council says it is still to hear whether a second cyclone, Cyclone Erica, has caused any problems on Rennell, Bellona, Makira and southern Guadalcanal.
An official says because of the extensive rain brought by the cyclone, there may be damage to food gardens and some villagers near rivers.
