No vaccine in Solomon Islands for new-born babies

11:38 am on 13 March 2003

A Solomon Islands health official has confirmed that it has not been possible to vaccinate new born babies for the past week, because the country has run out of vaccination drugs.

But the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Dr Dennie Iniakwala says the Japanese Government has provided emergency funding assistance of around 90 thousand US dollars.

It is expected to be the end of the month before the drugs will again be available in the Solomons.

In the meantime Dr Iniakwala has called for parents to be extra vigilant and try to ensure their children do not get sick.
