A bill outlawing same sex marriages has been passed in final reading in American Samoa's House of Representatives.

The bill was intorudced by Representative Sua Carl Schuster who said that the legal battles in other states where same sex marriages are allowed should be prevented here.

He said that by outlawing same sex marriages now, the territory would not have to face that problem.

The sole dissenting vote came from rep. Tagaloa Letuli.
