Fiji's opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, is seeking legal advice over the appointment of a Labour MP as chair of the parliamentary public accounts committee.
Mr Beddoes says the Speaker appointed Poseci Bune to the position without reference to him as opposition leader which is the normal practice.
The Committee chairmanship is usually held by an Opposition MP.
He says the Labour party should make up its mind whether its in opposition or not.
Mr Beddoes says as well as legal advice, he is taking other steps.
"I have written to the Labour member asking him to step down and I'm going to see what steps I can take. They're suggesting that I am in contempt of the House and they're going to summons, and if that gives me a platform to state my case I will. But I think it's ironice that they've broken the rules and I'm in contempt because I want them to abide by it."
Mick Beddoes says if the Labour party decides it is in opposition, then he's ready to step down and allow the Labour leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, to take up the position.
