Samoa's prime minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, has returned from a 5-day visit to Tokelau, formalising the areas in which Samoa and Tokelau will be cooperating.

The outcome of the Prime Minister's talks with the traditional leaders of Tokelau is the Cooperation Arrangement which reflects the close and growing relationship between the two countries.

The director of the office of Tokelau's Council of Faipule, Falani Aukuso, says the Cooperation Arrangement was well received by the Tokelau group.

"It formalises a situation whereby the leadership of both countries will meet and agree to meet on an annual basis to discuss issues of ongoing concern and of mutual benefit. So that has provided a framework for such discussions and will become known as the annual ministerial talks."
