Teachers in Solomon Islands to strike again

9:02 am on 29 March 2003

Teachers in Solomon Islands have issued a threat to strike next week unless their outstanding wages are paid.

The general secretary of the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association, Fred Taika, says it is not a negotiable issue.

The teachers have been owed several of their normal fortnightly pays since late last year.

On November 25th last year, the teachers had signed an MOU with the Ministry of Education which allowed four months for the Government to sort out the wage problems.

Mr Taika says they are sticking to the conditions of the MOU and it serves as their legal notice of strike action.
