Solomon Islands opposition suggests sending special constables to help post war Iraq

An opposition MP in the Solomons has suggested offering the services of special constables in a post war Iraq.

Alfred Sasako says while some people might regard his suggestion with cynicism, he believes the idea would have the support of the people of Solomon Islands.

He says now the government has decided to support the war against Iraq, sending the special constables would give the government an opportunity to cut an allowance bill that had become unserviceable.

Mr Sasako said it would also teach a work ethic to the special constables and allow them to turn around what he called their dark side
