Fiji's Indo-Fijians and their organisations are reported to be preparing to offer their support to the Great Council of Chiefs when it meets later this year.

The Fiji Times says the chairman of the chiefs, Ratu Epeli Ganilau, has confirmed that he has received a number of letters from Indo-Fijian organisations and individuals wanting to show their loyalty and appreciation to the Council.

It quotes Ratu Epeli as saying the council would be glad to be used as a vehicle to promote reconciliation between the two major races.

He says Indian political parties may also be given a chance to speak during the meeting which will take place in the home village of President Iloilo near Lautoka.
