Vanuatu Trading Post newspaper to become Daily

9:34 am on 14 April 2003

The publisher of Vanuatu's independent trading post newspaper has announced the publication will make history by becoming "The Vanuatu Daily Post", beginning next month.

The former Briton Marc Neil Jones, who is now a naturalised citizen, says the Daily Post will be published Tuesday to Saturday.

A website has already been designed and will be officially launched with the first issue of the new daily.

Mr Neil Jones says the time is ripe for a daily newspaper and there is more than enough news around at home and overseas for an informative, educational daily paper for the country.

He says it will give the paper more opportunity to carry more positive news stories as well as issues of concern that affect the nation.

In order to launch the paper's new vision, Mr Neil Jones has already taken over as editor of the newspaper from long time indigenous editor Len Garae.

Mr Neil Jones explains that the decision to take over from Mr Garae is necessary in order to have a more hands-on grip on the content of the paper.

Trading Post has 17 full-time and 15 part-time staff.
