Researchers at the University of Tennessee has been awarded 4.2 million US dollars from the US Deparment of Labour to conduct a study on American Samoa's minimum wage.

The five year project will include setting minimum wages for workers in the US territory and for an industry study on compliance with the Fair Labour Standards Act.

The project will also look at setting pay rates for federal construction workers.

Minimum wage for American Samoa's industries varies as it is reviewed every two years by a federal industry committee within the US department of Labour.

The next industry committee hearing is set for June this year.
