Solomon's hospital runs out of antibiotics

7:43 am on 28 April 2003

One of the main hospitals in Solomon Islands has run out of basic antibiotics.

The Emergency Departmenr at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara says it has no supplies of the drugs used in frontline treatment.

A Clinical Nurse consultant, John Kili, told the Solomons Island Broadcasting Corporation that the shortage of vital drugs could put the lives of children at risk, as they are more vulnerable to infection.

Mr Kili says until more supplies are available the hospital is urging people to take extra precautions with their health.
