Fiji Reserve Bank sees decline for agriculture-based industries

The Reserve Bank of Fiji says the country's agriculture-based industries including sugar will decline this year.

In a revised forecast about Fiji's economic performance for this year, the bank says cane and sugar production, and other agricultural crops are projected to contract in 2003.

Cyclone Ami seriously damaged most of Fiji's copra production areas last January, leading to a serious decline in production.

Extensive floods last week have also led the ministry of agriculture to forecast a shortage of taro, ginger and vegetables.
