The Solomon Islands government politicians who were toppled in a coup in June 2000 have forgiven the militants involved.

The Solomon Islands Alliance for Change was forced out of government by the Malaitan Eagle Force militant group during the a conflict with Guadalcanal militants.

One member of that government, former Minister of State, Alfred Sasako, says a reconciliation ceremony has been held and all the members of the government have forgiven the MEF.

He says there are plans for further reconciliations.

"We are very pleased about and we hope that this process will continueand that in the end there will be a genuine one organised between the people of Malaita and Guadalcanal so that we can bury the past and begin a new chapter."
