Solomon Islands opposition leader steps down

The Solomon Islands opposition leader, Patteson Oti, has stepped down from his position.

Mr Oti, who has been in his constituency in the country's east for the past four months, was reportedly beem asked by members of his group to vacate the leadership.

The opposition is to meet next week to determine who will be the leader of the national opposition.

After the elections in 2001, Mr Oti was named as one of the candidates for the prime ministership.
