7:09 am on 20 May 2003

The American Samoan governor has warned his cabinet that the awarding of government contracts to businesses owned by directors or their families is not allowed.

Togiola Tulafono issued the warning amid media reports of large government contracts being given to directors' families.

While citing the regulations, he did not say whether any investigations would be launched into the alleged abuse.

But Togiola says he will not tolerate any practice of conduct that violates the public trust.
