Fiji tax authorities move on evading companies

Fiji's Inland Revenue Department is reported to have collected 28-million US dollars in back taxes following a crackdown on companies which were evading paying taxes.

The Fiji Times reports the department will write off another 13-million as the debtors have either died or migrated overseas.

The deputy director of the department, Abdul Hakim, says there are companies which have not lodged tax returns for years.

Mr Hakim has warned that companies which do not comply with tax demands will have their assets seized and sold.
