Fiji government denies putting pressure on Daily Post newspaper over editor's job

The Fiji government has denied claims that it has put pressure on the partly government-owned Daily Post newspaper to re-employ its former editor, Mesake Koroi, as he no longer works for Radio Fiji.

The minister for public enterprises, Irami Matairavula, says no approaches have been made to get Mr Koroi his job back.

Mr Koroi was editor of Radio Fiji, but his contract was not renewed on expiry two weeks ago after he interviewed the minister for information on the controversial Media Bill for a government radio programme.

He is the prime minister's cousin.
