4:27 pm on 30 May 2003

Fiji police are focussing on riots, bombs and terrorist threats to protect the 4000 plus people expected to attend next month's South Pacific Games in Suva.

The Fiji Times says the police have confirmed that their contingency plans cover all possibilities starting from the airports to the games village.

About 230 police officers will be engaged in security duties for which the Fiji police have been liasing closely with their Australian counterparts.

A police spokesperson says X-ray equipment and metal detectors have been imported from New Zealand and everything is in place.
