Police in French Polynesia have found the dismembered body of an unidentified baby.
The mayor of Moorea, Teriitepaiatua Maihi, says the discovery of a baby's limbs is an unprecedented event in Polynesian history.
The authorities have appealed for the mother to come forward.
Checks of young mothers in the area of the discovery have failed to yield any clues and no child has been reported missing.
