4:19 pm on 20 June 2003

The first of four police posts to be built by New Zealand army engineers in Solomon Islands has been officially opened.

The post is at Henderson International Airport, east of Honiara, as Dorothy Wickham reports.

"Deputy police commissioner operations, Wilfred Akao, said the post begins this afternoon. He says the post will cover a huge area that previously had no police presence hear it. The four police posts are being built under the New Zealand defence cooperation programme. New Zealand army brigadier general, Paul Southwell, and high commissioner Heather Riddell were present for the opening."
