American Samoa watchdog group calls for suspension of cabinet member

The American Samoa group monitoring political activity there says a Cabinet member should be stood down until allegations against him are heard.

Common Cause says the Chief Procurement Officer, Tafua Fa'au'u Seumanutafa, should be stood down until his involvement in the granting of government contracts to businesses associated with his family are sorted out.

A probe earlier this month by the Department of Education found questionable issues over Tafua's awarding of the School Lunch Programme contracts to a company owned by his son.

The matter has also been investigated by police.
