A court in Vanuatu has found the publisher of the Port Vila Presse guilty of failing to make legally required contributions to the National Provident Fund on behalf of his staff.

Mark Lowen was found guilty of more than 100 counts but he is disputing the verdict and plans to lodge an appeal.

Mr Lowen says his staff were individial employers who sub-contracted their services to his company.

The court determined that the arrangement was to avoid paying the contributions to the fund.
