There's been a call to scale back American Samoa's Flag Day celebrations, scheduled for next month.

Pago Pago representative, Muavefaatasi Ae Ae Jr, says the territory has just suffered the loss of lives and millions of dollars worth of property in the recent floods and mudslides.

He says government resources should be focussed on rebuilding efforts instead of spending more money on Flag Day.

Flag Day is observed on April17th each year to celebrate the first raising of the United States flag on April 17th 1900.

This years celebration was postponed until the 3rd and 4th of July after the death of Governor Tauese Sunia on March 26th.
