Fiji PM says talks on land lease issues could help possible talks on a multi-party cabinet

Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, has made his first public comment on the possibility of the Labour Party being in his cabinet since the Supreme Court hearing into the case this week.

Mr Qarase has told Fiji TV that recent progress on land lease issues during "talanoa" talks with Labour could have a positive effect if talks for a multi-party cabinet were to be held after the Supreme Court ruling.

The prime minister has described the land lease talks as a good beginning.

The Supreme Court heard the government's appeal against Labour's inclusion in the cabinet on Wednesday.

It has not yet delivered its ruling but is expected to do so soon.
